Feb 11th: Zac Taylor

Little Zachary Taylor doodles the Nirvana smiley face on his trapperkeeper in English class, listening to Kurt on a discman. His older brother Willy spends a summer mowing lawns to buy a red Squier Strat. Zac runs the risk of a pounding by playing it while Willy’s at football practice.

He spends his early teens wearing out Hendrix and Beatles tab books, sneaking out of the house at midnight to blues jams at dive bars in downtown Atlanta, trying to impress uninterested girls by playing Talking Heads songs and, occasionally, finding the nerve to sing.

Ages 20-25, he travels the world as a busker and gonzo journalist: Boston, New York City, Kyoto, Barcelona, Cairo. His songwriting begins to have a face: cynical humor meets clumsy romance over pop formats with jazzy flourishes. He puts together a 7-piece band, Zac Taylor & The Drugs—a mix between the Stray Cats and Ben Folds. He talks fast and dreams big.
