Anna Rae was raised in the citrus valley of California and went to high school and college in Minnesota. If she had to choose, her sweetest musical memories are those made around the campfire in the Sierra Nevadas.
During college she was involved in jazz projects and fell in love with the blues. During and after college, she worked in the Bighorn National Forest of Wyoming where she began to have a deep appreciation for old traditional songs and the people that still make them. She played in local music jams where ranchers, artists and mechanics turned up to drink hard whiskey and dance. These years gave her both cowboy songs and others that speak to nature and quiet.
Since moving to Boston she's continued to write and meet many passionate and gifted musicians. Her songs reflect reflect the places she's been, the people she's met, and feelings she's passed through.
